Ponty returned to France, and released The Electric Connection that same year, and in 1970 issued the vanguard King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa. He followed with New Violin Summit with Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Michal Urbaniak for MPS in 1971, and Open String in 1972.
Other featured musicians were bassists Max Bennett and Shuggie Otis (who was only 15 years old at the time of the session); drummers John Guerin, Paul Humphrey and Ron Selico; and electric violinists Don "Sugarcane" Harris and Jean-Luc Ponty.
